Past Perfect Tense in Urdu with Examples

Past Tense – فعل ماضی

Past tense is used to talk about past actions and state of being.

فعل ماضی کو ہم ماضی میں کئے جانے والے کاموں کے لئے استعمال کرتے ہیں۔

Past Perfect Tense in Urdu

Past perfect tense is used to talk about past actions completed before certain time in the past.

اس زمانے کا استعمال ہم ایسے کاموں کے لئے کرتے ہیں جو ماضی میں مکمل ہوچکے ہو۔

پہچان: چکا تھا، چکے تھے، چکی تھی وغیرہ۔

Helping Verbs and Form of Verb

Helping Verb: Had

Form of Verb: 3^rd Form

Note: we use helping verb had with all the singular and plural subjects.

Affirmative/Simple Sentences – سادہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ

Formula: Subject + Helping Verb (Had) + V3 + Object +.

We had won the match.	ہم میچ جیت چکے تھے۔
We had finished our work.	ہم اپنا کام مکمل کرچکے تھے۔
She had deceived me.	وہ مجھے دھوکہ دے چکی تھی۔
They had finished their work.	وہ اپنا کام مکمل کرچکے تھے۔
We had written the letter.	ہم خط لکھ چکے تھے۔
You had told a lie.	تم جھوٹ بول چکے تھے۔
We had bought a new car.	ہم نئ گاڑی خرید چکے تھے۔
Akram had polished his shoes.	اکرم اپنے جوتے پالش کرچکے تھے۔
Shazia had cooked food.	شازیہ کھانا پکا چکی تھی
I had gone there.	میں وہاں جا چکا تھا۔

Negative Sentences – منفی فقرات

Formula: Subject + Helping Verb + Not + Object +.

Note: You can notice that by adding only “not” after the helping verb we can simply make negative sentences of past perfect tense.

I had not told a lie.	میں جھوٹ نہیں بول چکا تھا۔
We had read a book.	ہم کتاب پڑھ چکے تھے۔
You had not purchased a new car.	تم ایک نئ گاڑی نہیں خرید چکےتھے۔
We had not finished our work.	ہم اپنا کام مکمل نہیں کرچکے تھے۔
Akram had not written a book.	اکرم ایک کتاب نہیں لکھ چکا تھا۔
They had not played cricket.	وہ کرکٹ نہیں کھیل چکے تھے۔
Shazia had not cooked food.	شازیہ کھانا نہیں پکا چکی تھی۔
She had not finished her work.	وہ اپنا کام مکمل نہیں کرچکی تھی۔
They had not watched a movie.	وہ فلم نہیں دیکھ چکے تھے۔
He had not washed the clothes.	وہ کپڑے نہیں دھو چکا تھا۔

Interrogative Sentences – سوالیہ فقرات

Formula: Helping Verb + Subject + V3 +  Object + ?

Had he gone to school?	کیا وہ سکول جاچکاتھا؟
Had they played well?	کیا وہ اچھا کھیل چکے تھے؟
Had she washed the clothes?	کیا وہ کپڑے دھو چکی تھی؟
Had we finished our work?	کیا ہم اپنا کام مکمل کرچکےتھے؟
Had Shazia cooked food?	کیا شازیہ کھانا پکا چکی تھی؟
Had Akram read the news?	کیا اکرم خبر پڑھ چکا تھا؟
Had he told a lie?	کیا وہ جھوٹ بول چکا تھا؟
Had they bought a new car?	کیا وہ ایک نئی گاڑی خرید چکے تھے؟
Had you slept well?	کیا تم ٹھیک سے سوچکے تھے؟
Had Ali watched a movie?	کیا علی فلم دیکھ چکا تھا؟

وہ وہاں جا چکے تھے۔	کیا وہ کھانا کھا چکا تھا؟
کیا وہ جھوٹ نہیں بول چکا تھا؟	وہ کام مکمل نہیں کر چکےتھے۔
کیا وہ سبق یاد کرچکے تھے؟	وہ گھرخرید چکا تھا۔
ہم ناشتہ کر چکےتھے۔	کیا وہ مکان بنا چکا تھا؟
