Past Perfect Continuous Tense in Urdu with Examples
Past perfect continuous tense is also called past perfect progressive tense. We use this tense when we want to talk about an action that started in past and continued for a specific time in the past.
فعل ماضی مکمل جاری کا استعمال ہم ایسے کاموں کے لئے کرتے ہیں جو ماضی میں شروع ہوا تھا اور ماضی میں کسی خاص وقت میں جاری تھا۔
مثال کے طور پر: علی کتاب پڑتارہاتھا، وہ آم کھاتے رہے تھے، وغیرہ۔
Helping Verb and Form of Verb
Helping Verb: Had been
Form of Verb: Verb 1st form + ing
Use of Since and For
Since is used to show the point of time.
They had been playing cricket since 2010.
وہ 2010 سے کرکٹ کھیل رہے تھے۔
For is used to show the duration and time period.
He had been learning English for 2 years.
وہ دوسالوں سے انگلش سیکھ رہا تھا۔
Note: we use had been with all the singular and plural subjects.
Affirmative/Simple Sentences – سادہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ
Formula: Subject + had been + verb-ing + object + since/for + .
| They had been reading a book since morning. | وہ صبح سے کتاب پڑھ رہے تھے۔ |
| I had been eating since evening. | میں شام سے کھا رہا تھا۔ |
| We had been working together since 2001. | ہم 2001 سے ساتھ کام کر رہے تھے۔ |
| You had been working in a company for ten years. | تم دس سالوں سے ایک کمپنی میں کام کررہے تھے۔ |
| Akram had been trying to pass the exam since 2015. | اکرم 2015 سے امتحان پاس کرنے کی کوشش کررہا تھا۔ |
| They had been living in UK for one month. | وہ ایک ماہ سے یوکے میں رہ رہے تھے۔ |
| She had been singing a song since noon. | وہ دوپہر سے گاناگارہی تھی۔ |
| I had been writing a book since 2021. | میں 2001 سے ایک کتاب لکھ رہا تھا۔ |
| He had been ignoring me for two days. | وہ مجھے دو دنوں سے نظرانداز کررہا تھا۔ |
| I had been persuading them since morning. | میں انہیں صبح سے منارہا تھا۔ |
Negative Sentences – منفی فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ
Formula: Subject + had + not + been + verb-ing + object + since/for + .
Note: by adding only “not” between had been we can simply make negative structure of past perfect continuous tense.
| I had not been convincing them since evening. | میں انہیں شام سے نہیں منارہاتھا۔ |
| They had not been ignoring us for four days. | وہ ہمیں چاردنوں سے نظرانداز نہیں کررہا تھا۔ |
| She had not been writing a book for one year. | وہ ایک سال سے کتاب نہیں لکھ رہی تھی۔ |
| I had not been singing a song since noon. | میں دوپہر سےگانا نہیں گا رہا تھا۔ |
| We had not been living in Pakistan for three years. | ہم تین سالوں سے پاکستان میں نہیں رہ رہے تھے۔ |
| He had not been trying to pass the exam for two years. | وہ دوسالوں سے امتحان پاس کرنے کی کوشش نہیں کررہا تھا۔ |
| Akram had not been working in a company since 2020. | وہ 2020 سے ایک کمپنی میں کام نہیں کررہا تھا۔ |
| They had not been working together for ten days. | وہ دس دنوں سے ایک ساتھ کام نہیں کررہے تھے۔ |
| She had not been eating since evening. | وہ شام سے نہیں کھا رہی تھی۔ |
| Shaza had been reading a book for two hours. | شازیہ دو گھنٹوں سے کتاب نہیں پڑھ رہی تھی۔ |

Formula: Had + subject + been + ver-ing + object + since/for + ?

| Had they been working together since 2001? | کیا آپ لوگ 2001 سے ساتھ کام کررہے تھے؟ |
| Had Akram been working in a company since 2010? | کیا اکرم 2010 سے ایک کمپنی میں کام کررہا تھا؟ |
