Past Tense – فعل ماضی

Past tense is used to talk about past actions or state of being.

فعل ماضی ایک زمانہ ہے جو ماضی کے کام یا حالت کے لئے استعمال  کرتے ہیں۔

Past Indefinite Tense in Urdu

Past indefinite tense is also called past simple and this tense is used for those actions completed in a time before now.

فعل ماضی مطلق اب سے پہلے مکمل کاموں کے لئے استعمال کرتے ہیں۔

پہچان: اس زمانہ کے فقرات کے آخرم میں تھا، تھے، تھی، ا، ی، ے، وغیرہ آتا ہے۔

Helping Verbs and Form of Verb

Helping Verb:  Did (I, We, You, They, You, He, She, It, singular and plural subjects)

Form of Verb: V2 is used in positive sentences and V1 is used in negative and interrogative sentences.

Note: In this tense we do not use helping verb in positive sentences.

Affirmative/Simple Sentences – سادہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ

 Formula: Subject + Verb 2^nd form + Object + .

I went there.	میں وہاں گیا تھا۔
She painted the room.	اس نے کمرہ رنگ کیا۔
They taught the students.	انہوں نے بچوں کو پڑایا۔
We wrote a letter.	ہم نے خط لکھا۔
He cooked the food.	اس نے کھانا پکایا۔
Akram used the phone.	اکرم نے موبائل استعمال کیا۔
We won the match.	ہم نے مقابلہ جیتا۔
We worked hard.	ہم نے محنت کیا۔
I read a book.	میں نے کتاب پڑھا۔
He punished his brother.	اس نے اپنے بھائی کو سزا دیا۔

Negative Sentences – منفی/ انکاریہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ

Formula: Subject + Did + not + 1V + Object + .

You have noticed that with a simple change to the positive sentences by adding helping verb “did+not” to the positive sentences we can make negative sentences easily.

They did not go to school.	وہ سکول نہیں گئے۔
She did not read a book.	اس نے کتاب نہیں پڑھا۔
I did not write a letter.	میں نے خط نہیں لکھا۔
They did not win the match.	انہوں نے مقابلہ نہیں جیتا۔
I did not cook food.	میں نے کھانا نہیں پکایا۔
She did not use the mobile.	اس نے موبائل استعمال نہیں کیا۔
Akram did not made tea.	اکرم نے چائے نہیں بنایا۔
He did not painted the room.	اس نے کمرہ رنگ نہیں کیا۔
We did not watch the TV.	ہم نے ٹی وی نہیں دیکھا۔
Shazia did not wash the clothes.	شازیہ نے کپڑے نہیں دھوئے۔

Interrogative Sentences – سوالیہ فقرات

Formula: Did + Subject + 1V + Object + ?

By adding helping verb “did” at the beginning of  the sentence we can simply make interrogative sentences of past indefinite tense.

Did he go to university?	کیا وہ یونیورسٹی گیا؟
Did she cook food?	کیا اس نے کھنا پکایا؟
Did we won the prize?	خیا ہم انعام جیتے؟
Did they drive a car?	کیا انہوں نے گاڑی چلایا؟
Did I write a letter?	کیا میں نے خط لکھا؟
Did Akram polish the shoes?	کیا اکرم نے جوتے پالش کیا؟
Did he write a letter?	کیا اس نے خط لکھا؟
Did we watch the film?	کیا ہم نے فلم دیکھا؟
Did he made tea?	کیا اس نے چائے بنایا؟
Did they punish them?	کیا انہوں نے انہے سزا دیا؟
