Past Tense – فعل ماضی

Past tense is used to talk about past actions and state of being.

فعل ماضی کو ہم ماضی میں کئے جانے والے کاموں کے لئے استعمال کرتے ہیں۔

Past Continuous Tense in Urdu

Past continuous tense is also called past progressive tense, this tense is used to talk about to talk about ongoing actions in the past.

فعل ماضی جاری کوہم ماضی کے جاری کاموں کے لئے استعمال کرتے ہیں۔

اردو پہچان: رہا تھا، رہی تھی، رہے تھے وغیرہ۔

Helping Verbs and Form of Verb

Helping Verbs: Was / Were

Form of Verb: 1^st form + ing

Note: we use helping verb “was” with singular subjects “I, he, she, it and any singular name” and we use “were” with plural subjects “they, we, you, and any plural names”.

Affirmative/Simple Sentences – سادہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ

Formula: Subject + Helping Verb (was/were) + ing form + object + .

He was learning English.	وہ انگلش سیکھ رہا تھا۔
She was cooking food.	وہ کھانا پکارہی تھی۔
You were watching a move.	آپ ایک فلم دیکھ رہی تھے۔
Ali was using a phone.	علی فون استعمال کررہاتھا۔
They were reading a book.	وہ ایک کتاب پڑھ رہے تھے۔
He was teasing you.	وہ آپکو تنگ کررہاتھا۔
She was writing a letter.	وہ ایک خط لکھ رہا تھی۔
We were painting a room.	ہم کمرہ رنگ کررہے تھے۔
I was waiting for you.	میں آپ کا انتظار کررہاتھا۔
He was teaching English.	وہ انگلش پڑھارہاتھا۔

Negative Sentences – منفی فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ

Formula: Subject + Helping Verb (was/were) + Not + ing form + object + .

You were not learning English.	تم انگلش نہیں پڑھ رہے تھے۔
I was not using mobile.	میں موبائل استعمال نہیں کررہاتھا۔
They were not teaching us.	وہ ہمیں نہیں پڑھارہےتھے۔
She was not reading a book.	وہ ایک کتاب نہیں پڑھارہاتھا۔
Ali was not playing.	علی نہیں کھیل رہاتھا۔
We were not painting this room.	ہم اس کمرے کو رنگ نہیں کررہےتھے۔
She was not teasing me.	وہ مجھے تنگ نہیں کررہی تھا۔
I was not playing.	میں نہیں کھیل رہاتھا۔
She was not cooking food.	وہ کھانانہیں پکا رہی تھی۔

Interrogative Sentences – انکاریہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ

Formula: Helping Verb (was/were) + Subject + ing form + object + ?

Were they painting the room?	کیا وہ کمرہ رنگ کررہےتھےَ؟
Was he reading a book?	کیا وہ کتاب پڑھ رہاتھا؟
Were you teasing me?	کیا تم مجھے تنگ کررہےتھے؟
Was she cooking food?	کیا وہ کھانا پکارہی تھی؟
Were they playing?	کیا وہ کھیل رہےتھے؟
Was Ali learning English?	کیا علی انگلش پڑھ رہاتھا؟
Were you speaking English?	کیا تم انگلش بول رہے تھے؟
Was he painting the room?	کیا وہ کمرہ رنگ کررہا تھا؟
Were you cleaning the room?	کیا تم کمرہ صاف کررہے تھے؟
